Mark Dewsbury
B. Env Design, B Arch.,
Grad. Cert. Mgt, PhD
Dr Dewsbury has been involved in the sustainable design of commercial and residential buildings in the public and private sectors for more than 30 years. He and Vicki Dewsbury are the principal partners of CARAWAH, which specialises low energy dwellings. He is also Senior Lecturer and Director of the Tasmania Architectural Science Laboratory (TASL), within Architecture & Design, at the University of Tasmania. His design and research focuses on methods to inform and improve the construction, durability, thermal performance, indoor environmental qualities within buildings. As a member of the NatHERS Technical Advisory Committee and the ABCB’s Condensation technical working group, his research provides input for the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme, CHENATH, the AccuRate building simulation programs and the condensation requirements within the national building regulations. Mark has undertaken contract research for a broad range of industry and government partners including the CSIRO, State and Federal government agencies.

VICKI DEWSBURY

As a partner in Carawah Vicki has been involved in the sustainable design of low energy buildings for more than 20 years. Her passion for art and design has seen her engagement as a tutor in Architectural Design, Landscape Design and Visual Communications, and as a visual artist educator in primary and secondary schools.
Plant & wildlife illustration projects have been completed for government and industry partners and the several large public art murals have been completed solo and in collaboration with other artists. Her passion for drawing sees her strong involvement within the Launceston Urban Sketching community.

Freya Su
B.Env.Des.
Freya Su has worked with Mark Dewsbury since 2016 in the Tasmanian Architectural Science Lab (TASL) at the University of Tasmania. Freya’s area of expertise is investigating the role climate data in the use of building simulation. She has expertise in 1D hygrothermal simulation and is an accredited air tightness tester at Snug House Tasmania.
Freya has a background in physics and software development and is completing her PhD at TASL. She has been a tutor and unit coordinator at the Architecture and Design school since 2017.

Rhys Tanton
Dip.A.C.D, B.App.Sci, B.Env.Des
Rhys is passionate about investigating the relationship between human societal needs and impacts that those needs have on both the human and natural environments.
Rhys has previously worked as a Glassblower, Natural Resource management officer and Lectured in the school of engineering at TAFE Tasmania.
Since 2021, Rhys has been undertaking a PhD focusing on the innovative use of 2D Hygrothermal analysis software and trialing it’s ability to replicate conditions in timber drying, supervised by Mark Dewsbury. Rhys has expertise in both 1D and 2D hygrothermal simulation software.
